To hear Karen Hedges play or sing is to hear her passion, love, and devotion to the study of music. To hear her students play or sing is to hear her heart. For 50 years, Karen Hedges and her husband have owned and operated Shiloh Music Center. Throughout that time, Karen, an accomplished musician, pianist, and teacher has taught multiple generations of children about piano, music theory and a little bit of life on the side. Her guiding principle is to instill a life-long love of music within each child that comes through the door.
A proud mother of two boys who are also part of the lifeblood of Shiloh, Karen met her husband when she ordered a James Taylor songbook from him at the store 50 years ago. She lives in the Mount Juliet area and is an active member of her local church as well as a member and officer of several local and national music societies.
Karen is a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Tennessee Music Teachers Association (TMTA) , Nashville Area Music Teachers Association (NAMTA) and Nashville Association of Piano Guild Teachers (NAPGT). She has received the Top Piano Teacher award from the Steinway Piano Gallery in Nashville in 2016, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2021, Karen was inducted to the Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame in New York.
“We try to treat customers like we’ve known them forever even if we’ve just met. I think that’s what sets us apart from other music stores. We’re family-owned and operated and make a point to treat every customer just like family. Obviously, I’m biased, but that’s what makes us so great. When you leave here, we want you to be happy about whatever just happened—whether you bought something, got a repair or took a lesson.” - James Hedges
